It is 2009 and we are ready for our 46th season of Vikings football and cheer. This year I, Bill Dobbs, have decided to follow in my family's footsteps and become a big part of the Vikings Tradition. I will serve as your 2009 Vikings Football President. Beside me will be Gene Matera, Mark Bettencourt, Craig Toth, Matt Gee and newcomers Dan Lombardi, Richard Rogero, Gail Albaugh and Mike Nolan.
As of today, April 1, 2009, we have already received registrations from 50% of our members. Due to the popularity of the Vikings program and the lack of available fields, we are going to stop registration on May 2, 2009. Please be sure to either show up and register on that day or mail in your registration to the Simi Valley Vikings, P.O. Box 1493, Simi Valley, CA 93062. After May 2, 2009, a waiting list will be started and we will try to accommodate additional players.
In 2008, the Vikings organization saw their football field receive an $80,000 make-over and the kids get new helmets, jerseys and pants with the built in pads. With all this new gear and the field renovation, our organization was on a tight budget and funds were low. I am happy to announce
today that we have overcome this financial burden and have been able to eliminate the volunteer fee and even lower the league registration fees.
A big thank you goes out to those families that volunteered many hours and then donated their $50 deposit back to the Vikings. Keep in mind it is only possible to eliminate the volunteer fee when the outstanding parents of our organization continue to step up and give back to our football and cheer program.
Last year we were represented in the Super Bowl by Mighty Mite Green (Dobbs), Bantam Black (Marshall), J1 Gold (Sommer), J2 White (Skiffington/Pinkston) and Senior Gold (Nelson). Your 2008 Super Bowl Champs in Simi Valley were the Mighty Mite Green and J2 White.
V-Force was introduced in 2008 and over 150 athletes participated in this unbelievable summer clinic. Along with having a lot of fun, these athletes learned football agility in our speed and conditioning camp. This year V-Force will combine with Grace Brethren High School Football coach of the year Terry Gourley and his Camp Gourley. This speed and conditioning camp will run for three consecutive weeks in July and teach these young athlete the proper way to stretch, run, eat and get them in football-ready condition. Those Viking players that choose to participate in one, two or even three weeks of summer camp will be a full step ahead of the other kids when football starts. It is highly recommended that your child attends at least one of these camps.
The Football Draft will begin July 29th for all new registrants and August 3rd for returnees who already have a team. The Senior Division will start on July 27, 2009.
